Why Pittsburgh?
Pittsburgh has a population of 2.4 million people. Only 6.4% of that population is considered evangelical. Pittsburgh is a historically catholic city, but that is starting to change. From the time between the year 2000 and 2010, both the catholic church and the mainline protestant churches had lost about a quarter each of their congregants, while the non-religious skyrocketed to three times its original size.
Pittsburgh, just like many cities around America, is quickly becoming a post-christian society. In addition, Pittsburgh is becoming a refugee city. Pittsburgh’s mayor has already brought in many Iraqi and Syrian families to Pittsburgh and has promised to take in more Syrians in the coming years.
Despite the overwhelming amount of souls that need saved, there is a Jesus movement starting to take shape in Pittsburgh. This small Jesus movement of evangelical churches sharing the gospel is what we want to be a part of.
